Where Rare Flowers & a Little Magick Grow
About Hedge & Alchemy
Perched atop a windy hill in Middletown, Pennsylvania, USA, Hedge & Alchemy is a micro flower farm where an English-style cottage garden has taken root in the heart of a suburban neighborhood. This little corner of the world, known as Ravensong Cottage, is home to rare blooms, wandering pollinators, two curious dachshunds named Evie and Echo, and a gardener who believes a little magick can still be found in growing things.
I'm Amber, gardener, collector, and founder of Hedge & Alchemy. Gardening has been a lifelong passion, and over the years I've cultivated everything from vegetables and herbs to roses, poppies, native plants, and cottage flowers. While I still love growing all things beautiful and edible, it was dahlias that quietly transformed a hobby into a calling.
What began with a handful of tubers soon became a passion for collecting rare and exceptional varieties, preserving their stories, studying hybridization, and one day introducing cultivars of my own. Every dahlia is grown organically with care, curiosity, and what I like to call fertile chaos: a garden where pollinators are always welcome, nature is trusted, and beauty is free to wander.
Beyond the flowers themselves, I've always been drawn to the old ways, to folklore, alchemy, ancient symbols, ravens, moonlit gardens, and the quiet mysteries woven through the natural world. Those inspirations shape everything you'll find at Hedge & Alchemy, from the gardens I grow to the stories I tell and the treasures I hope to share, including thoughtfully grown tubers, dried flowers, everlasting botanical arrangements, flower confetti, and other seasonal creations gathered from the garden.
At the heart of this garden is remembrance.
Among the dahlias is a memorial garden planted in honor of my beloved dog, Pippi, and the family and friends whose love continues to shape my life. Whenever possible, I choose dahlia varieties whose names reflect the people they commemorate, allowing each bloom to become a living remembrance that returns, season after season.
My hope is that the beauty grown here reaches far beyond the garden gate. In honor of loved ones who spent their final days in hospice, one of my deepest dreams is to share bouquets with hospice patients, nursing home residents, families navigating grief, and others who could use a reminder that they are remembered. Flowers cannot change difficult seasons, but they can bring moments of comfort, connection, and quiet joy when they are needed most.
As Hedge & Alchemy prepares for its inaugural Spring 2027 season, my wish is simple: that every tuber finds a home where it flourishes, every bouquet brightens someone's day, and every gift is passed along. Gardens have always been places of hope, and I believe the greatest abundance is the kind we share.
And behind nearly every new flower bed, truckload of compost, and mountain of mulch is my wonderfully supportive husband, Mike, proudly serving as Chief Dirt Handler. Every thriving garden needs someone willing to move mountains... or at least a whole lot of dirt.
