Fubuki Maroon, also known as Dark Fubuki, is a richly dramatic laciniated dahlia in deep maroon, wine, and dark red. Her petals split and fringe toward the tips, giving the bloom a feathery, almost flame-like silhouette that feels much wilder than a standard decorative form.

The coloring deepens toward the petal tips into purplish-red, while the base can show warmer yellow undertones. The result is layered, dark, and beautifully textural rather than flat red. The International Dahlia Register records the cultivar as bred by Firma van der Vlugt & N. Kops, named in 2011, and registered in 2012.

🌱 2027 Grow-Out

Fubuki Maroon will arrive at Hedge & Alchemy in Spring 2027 and will be grown here for the first time that season. She will not be offered in our 2027 tuber sale.

📋 Cultivar & Growing Notes

  • Breeder / Hybridizer: Firma van der Vlugt & N. Kops
  • Year: Named 2011; registered 2012
  • Origin: Netherlands
  • Also Known As: Dark Fubuki
  • Form: Laciniated (LC)
  • Size: Medium / B
  • Color: Dark Red
  • ADS-style Classification: 2507 (B / Medium / Laciniated / Dark Red), based on the recorded size, form, and color classification
  • Bloom Size: Approximately 5 to 6 inches
  • Bloom: Deep maroon to dark wine-red with heavily split, fringed petal tips. The underside and tips can lean toward dark purplish-red, while warmer tones may appear near the petal base.
  • Plant Height & Habit: Registered at about 4 to 4½ feet tall, with dark purple stems and an upright habit.
  • Cut Flower Status: Excellent. The fringed form adds texture and movement to arrangements, and the dark color works beautifully with blush, copper, cream, mauve, and other moody palettes.
  • Show & Exhibition Flower Status: Suitable for exhibition in the laciniated class; confirm the current ADS listing before entering.
  • Growing Notes: Stake early, especially once the larger blooms begin opening. The finely split petals make her especially striking in arrangements where texture matters as much as color.
  • Tuber Yield: To be tracked during our 2027 grow-out.

She has exactly the kind of dark, shredded-petal drama that looks like it wandered out of an old botanical spellbook. 🥀
